About Us
What is Occupational Therapy and how can it help me? or my loved one?
An Occupational Therapists role is:
- To support you to participate in everyday activities that you need and want to do, which we refer to as ‘occupations‘.
- To help you lead a full and meaningful life as far as is possible, within the context and boundaries of your short or longer term health condition or disability.
- To help you achieve your rehabilitation goals that we set out together collaboratively, regarding the things that are a priority and matter most to you.
- To teach you (and family or carers as needed) how to regain old skills, or teach you new ones. These skills will allow you to live life to the fullest, even if that means creating 'a new normal' for yourself.
- Ultimately, North London OT aims to support you to do the things that you want and need to do. We do this by thinking about and exploring the following 3 areas:
1. YOU as an individual.
2.The ACTIVITY or TASK i.e. 'OCCUPATION' you are wanting or needing to do,
3. The ENVIRONMENT you are living in.
The aims of Occupational Therapy are:
- To help people of all ages to overcome or minimise the impact of any sudden or long term health condition/disability
- To help improve and maximise a persons abilities to function and live as independently as possible, particularly following a hospital admission or a change in your health.
- To provide practical solutions to empower a person to engage in activities that mean the most to them.
- To enable safe participation in meaningful daily activities, which can improve confidence & maximise quality of life.
- To reduce care costs, or care demands on family members or others assisting you at home.
- To improve mood and mental well being, through regaining confidence and control over your daily routine and environment.

Which areas do you cover?
North London OT is based near East Finchley and Muswell Hill, however we cover the whole of North London and some surrounding areas depending on availability (the map shown above is just a guide and not exclusive)- please contact us directly to check if we can come to you.........
How long will my assessment/treatment take?
- An initial assessment generally lasts anywhere between 1-2 hours.
- Follow-up sessions can be 30, 45 or 60 mins in duration, and these can last for several weeks/months depending on the goals or issues identified that we are working on together.
Our Services
Home-based Assessments
- No need to travel or leave the comfort of your own home - we come to you!
- Assessment of daily living aids/equipment which can help you to be more independent at home e.g. to reduce effort and improve safety of getting on/off toilet, in/out of bed, up/down stairs.
- North London Occupational Therapy service includes sourcing, fitting, demonstrating and offering further practice sessions with this equipment as needed.
- Assessment and measuring up service for internal and external rails (to negotiate steps within or outside home) - fitting service not included but advice/details available on local services who can assist with this.
- Manual handling assessment - to advise and teach strategies to assist others to help you move around in the safest and best way possible
Home-based Rehabilitation
- Setting of client-centred goals to maximise motivation and engagement in treatment sessions.
- Personal exercise training sessions undertaken at home or at a venue of your choice such as a gym or park.
- Task practice sessions to rebuild confidence and independence with daily tasks/skills within or outside the home, including but not exclusively:
- Getting yourself washed and dressed.
- Completing kitchen tasks.
- Going up/down stairs.
- Getting in/out of a car.
- Getting in/out of your property to access local community or to attend appointments.
- Accessing local community via relevant transport services, including bus, tube, mobility scooter..
- Teaching sessions with family members and /or carers who may be supporting you at home to carry over your rehabilitation between sessions with your Occupational Therapist.
Mobility aid assessments/advice
- Assessment of your current gait/mobility and how this is impacting on your ability to get around within and outside your home.
- Assessment of suitable mobility aid options and trial of these - avoiding wasting money on unnecessary, unsuitable or unsafe walking aids
- Mobility and stair practice within or outside your home to regain or progress confidence, fitness and independence.
- Wheelchair advice and assessment of specific type, sizing and relevant cushion requirements.

Assessment and follow-up sessions
Initial Assessment /Consultation
- 60-120 mins in duration = £90 and upwards depending on location/travel - contact us to discuss your specific requirements.
- Written report available on request following initial assessment/consultation = £60 per hour.
Follow-up/review/ongoing rehabilitation sessions
- 45 mins = £50 and upwards
- 60 mins = £70 and upwards
- 90 mins = £100 and upwards

Personal Exercise Training
Home-based or at a training venue of your choice
Home-based 1:1 exercise or yoga sessions
Initial assessment session (60-90mins) = £60 +
Follow-up sessions:
- 30 mins in duration = £35 +
- 45 mins in duration = £50 +
- 60 mins in duration = £60 +

Community-based 1:1 exercise sessions
